Centrally located in Ubud village center. Also accessible from Jalan Raya Ubud (Main Road).
Description:
Probably a spin-off of Jalan Raya Ubud which seems to outgrow itself with museums, art galleries and fancy sidewalk cafès, Monkey Forest Road seems to take a life into its own.
A stroll along the sidewalk reveals some similarity such as exquisite art galleries, handicraft shops, health spas, restaurants and hotels, but the traffic isn't as bad as its sister road at Jalan Raya Ubud.
There are some really nicely designed shops here, with ample space for Balinese courtyards and landscaping. Towards the southern end is the famous Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary, hence a stroll on Monkey Forest Road is usually done together.
I had a really wonderful Indo-Balinese dinner at Wahyu Restaurant which is located across the street's football field. I did find it strange to have such an open field left for local sports when there surrounding area is being somewhat aggressively ravaged into modernity. Wahyu Restaurant is probably not featured much on local maps, so look for Tutmak Restaurant, and Wahyu is 2-3 shops right next to it.
